Ceolfrith

Ceolfrid (* 630 or 642; † September 29 716 in Langres, Bourgogne) was a saint. He was abbot of Wearmouth and Jarrow in. His name day is September 29.

Ceolfrid was ordained at age 18 Benedictine monk in the monastery of Ripon and after ten years of study of Wilfrid of York as a priest. Benedict Biscop appointed him prior of the monastery of Wearmouth, later abbot of the monastery of Jarrow daughter. After Benedict's death 690 sat Ceolfrid whose duties as a missionary continued. He increased the libraries of its monasteries - a valuable, surviving copy of the Vulgate goes back to him and brought him to Rome ( Codex Amiatinus ). At the age he resigned his offices and traveled again to Rome, but died on the way.

Ceolfrid was buried in Langres, his relics came to Jarrow and the time of the Danish crew to Glastonbury.
