CEPIC ( Centre of the Picture Industry) is a nonprofit, international umbrella organization which represents the interests of 11 national, European Agency associations and other individual agencies towards EU institutions and other international organizations. Its headquarters are in Berlin.

Organization

Currently, 883 photo agencies and about 50,000 image authors who market their artwork through agencies, from CEPIC represents (as of 2010 ). The member agencies are mostly small and medium-sized companies, but also to government museums and archives, professional photography and moving images from the departmental press, culture and illustration represent.

The CEPIC Board, which is elected for two years by the representatives of 11 national associations picture, is composed of 7 members.

History

CEPIC is a registered European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG ) and was founded in Berlin in 1993. To date, it has its headquarters there. 1997 CEPIC received observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO ). 2006, CEPIC member of the International Press Telecommunications Council ( IPTC). Since October 2009, CEPIC Centre of the Picture Industry calls. In the years before the organization went under the name Coordination of European Picture Agencies. The new name is intended to reflect the global nature of the umbrella organization.

Objectives and Activities

CEPIC promotes the exchange of information between the photo agencies from around the world through an annual congress in a different European cities. There, speak and discuss professionals about image rights and opportunities of indexing and online marketing. Other topics include the challenge of the new media, the situation of the photographic market and its constant changes, new technologies and footage.

The governing body is made up in its own opinion for the preservation of a balanced market conditions. Thus, model contracts and guidelines for relationships between photographers, photo agencies and image users are developed regularly. Designed specifically for protecting competitive market conditions in the online space, CEPIC works with ICOMP (Initiative for a Competitive Online Marketplace).

Another key concern is the protection of intellectual property and the associated compensation of image authors dar. CEPIC favor of ethical standards and the rights of photographers and Bildgenturen. These CEPIC has issued a critical opinion on the U.S. Google Book Settlement in 2009. The statement was filed with the European Commission, together with the following associations: ICOMP, the Association of German Book Trade, the Internet Archive / Open Book Alliance and EBLIDA.

CEPIC has also been active in the debate on the so-called " orphan works " ( orphan works), and calls for a sector-specific solution. To prevent the emergence of " orphan works ," says CEPIC advocates both the legal as well as to improve the technological protection.

Members

The number of the represented image agencies is 883 (as of September 2010). It results mainly from the membership of the national figurative associations, but also from the free members, as there is not an overriding interest groups for respective agencies and picture libraries in each country.

Other individual agencies come from Andorra, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Austria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Hungary and the United States.
