Ceramic tile cutter

The term describes a tile cutter tool, which is used in the field of tile craft for cutting ceramic tiles. A tile cutter is required when ceramic tiles are to receive a particular fit size. A basic distinction is between hand-held and electrically operated tile cutters. The choice of the tool depends on the properties of the ceramic tile.

Hand-held Tile Cutter

Hand-held tile cutter consist essentially of a carbide wheel, which is done with pressure over the surface of the ceramic tile. The carbide wheel is pulled along a guide rail, in order to achieve a straight cut. Thus, a fine cut on the surface is generated, which acts as a predetermined breaking point. Then one of the two halves will be charged and the ceramic tile breaks along the line of intersection. The operation is similar to that of a glass cutter.

Electric Tile Cutter

Electrically operated tile cutter have a diamond cutting disc, with the help of the ceramic tile is completely severed. For this, the ceramic tile is similar to a circular saw set to a support table and then cut. To reduce the dust and prevent overheating of the cutting wheel, the blade is wetted with water (so-called wet cutting).
