Cerisy

Cerisy (formerly Cerisy- Gailly, Picard: Crisin or Crisin - Gaillin ) is a northern French village with 483 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is part of the Canton of Bray- sur -Somme and is part of the Communauté de communes du Val de Somme.

Geography

The mainly agricultural community located in Santerre 12 km east of Corbie and 12 km south of Albert on the left bank of the meandering here Somme opposite Chipilly and extends south almost to the Territory road D1029 ( former Route nationale 29). It extends from the swampy floodplains of the Somme on Kalkflächen up to the flint soils in the south. To Cerisy belonged until the end of 1965 the location of the Somme towards Sailly -Laurette community part Gailly, which was connected to the community Sailly -Laurette on 1 January 1966.

Toponymy and history

The in the 13th century, among others designated as Cerisiacus went in the 7th century at the Abbey of Corbie, which established a priory here. The basic rule was the castle of Bray- sur -Somme allegiance to. Since 1693 there was a school.

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.

  • The church Saint- Georges, as a monument historique classified since 1919 (base Mérimée PA00116116 ), with a carillon in the tower.
