Cerro del Azufre

The Cerro del Azufre is the largest and youngest volcanic area aligned within a 50 -kilometer-long chain of northwest to southeast volcanoes in Chile, immediately west of the Bolivian- Chilean border in the Región de Antofagasta. The northern summit is the highest with 5846 meters point of andesitic volcano. Formed on the northern edge in the late Pleistocene some lava flows, which were largely covered by avalanches. There are no reliable scientific data on the recent eruption of the volcano.
