Ceru-Băcăinți
Ceru - Băcăinţi ( German Bocksdorf, Hungarian Bokajfelfalu or Bokaj ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.
Geographical location
Ceru - Băcăinţi lies on the southern edge of the Transylvanian Erzgebirge ( Munţii Metaliferi ), a part of the Apuseni Mountains, in the south-west of Alba County. The town lies on the River Băcăinţi, about 5 kilometers (direct distance) north of the river Mureş. With its nine incorporated towns - which could rather call Weiler - expands the community on an area of 4,950 hectares. The nearest town Geoagiu ( Hunedoara County ) is located about 15 kilometers south-west; the county capital Alba Iulia is located approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Ceru - Băcăinţi.
History
The town was first mentioned in 1909 under the Hungarian name Bokajfelfalu. The settlement has already been there before; 1866 a brick church was built. Roman pottery finds indicate an existence of rural settlements of the early centuries AD.

In 2002 lived in the village Ceru - Băcăinţi even 94 people, in several incorporated villages 282 people ( Bolovăneşti 25, Bulbuc 27, Cucuta 43, Curpeni 47, Dumbrăviţa 44, Fântânele 21, Groši 37, Valea Mare 30 and in Viezuri 8). The highest number of Germans ( 15) on the territory of present-day municipality was registered in 1900.
Attractions
- A special feature are the built of slate houses, due to the occurrence of sandstone, limestone and shale mainly in the valley of Băcăinţi.
- The Romanian Orthodox Church Sf. Gheorghe, built in 1866.
- The village belonging to the municipality Bulbuc ( Buldorf ) is located at the natural reserve Piatra Tomii. Here is an archaeological site of Cotofeni culture ( about the same time the Esero culture).
