Cesare Zerba

Cesare Cardinal Zerba ( born April 15, 1892 in Castelnuovo Scrivia, Province of Alessandria, Italy; † 11 July 1973 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Cesare Zerba received his theological and philosophical education in Stazzano, Tortona, Rome and Pavia. He received on 4 July 1915, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then participated as a chaplain in the First World War. He then worked as a pastor in various parishes of the Diocese of Rome. From 1924 he was beyond the fixed staff of the Congregation for the order of the sacraments. 1932 awarded him the Pope the title of Pontifical secret chamberlain, 1939, Cesare Zerba prelate prelate of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature. Pope Pius XII. appointed him in 1958 to the Secretary of the Sacrament Congregation.

Pope John XXIII. appointed Cesare Zerba 1962 Titular Archbishop of Colossae and gave him a bishop. He participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. Pope Paul VI. took him on 22 February 1965 as cardinal priest with the pro hac vice levied for the titular church of Nostra Signora title diakonia of the Sacred Heart to the College of Cardinals. Cesare Cardinal Zerba died on 11 July 1973 in Rome and was buried at his birthplace.
