Český Brod

Český Brod ( German Bohemian Brod) is a town with around 6,600 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located in central Bohemia, about 30 km east of Prague on the Šembera and belongs to the Okres Kolín.

History

On May 30, 1434 a battle of Hussite Wars took place here, in which the encampments were defeated by a coalition of moderate Utraquists with ancient church Catholics. At the village Lipany is the monument erected in 1881 the battle of Lipan, in which Andreas Prokop fell.

Bohemian Brod was the district capital, the district consists of 71 villages in 1860. It was the seat of the district administration and the a district court. 1880 lived in the town of 3,841 inhabitants. There were two sugar mills, a distillery and steam mill. In the 1870s drilling was carried out on coal seams up to 1,000 m depth.
