Český Krumlov District

Okres Český Krumlov ( German district Český Krumlov ) lies in the southern part of the Czech Republic in South Bohemia,. The area is 1615 km ². In the 45 communities live almost 61,000 inhabitants. The population density of around 38 inhabitants / km ² is the lowest in the Czech Republic. More than half the population lives in the six towns of the district. Most municipalities are located at an altitude of around 700 meters above sea level. M.

Among the most important economic sectors include paper processing and manufacturing, engineering and construction industries. Is sponsored graphite and granulite and peat. In agriculture, grain and animal feed is grown and operated cattle. An important role is also played by the forest industry. Unemployment is at 8.7%.

The district has many natural monuments, most are located in the Šumava and Novohradské mountains. The highest point is at 1332 meters ( Smrčina in Šumava), the lowest point on the river Vltava in Vrábče (420 meters). The most important river is the Vltava River with the Lipno dam, the highest dam in the Czech Republic ( 726 meters above sea level. M. ). Another major river and source of drinking water is the Malše with the dam Soběnov. In the many nature parks you will find many rare plants and up to 400 years old and 50 meters high trees.
