ČEZ Aréna (Plzeň)

ČEZ Aréna is a multi-purpose hall in Pilsen, Czech Republic. It is primarily used for ice hockey, but also for concerts. The hall, which opened in 1968, is the home arena of the HC Plzeň 1929.

History

On February 11, 1950 in Plzeň, the Zimni Stadion města Plzně, an open-air ice rink with a capacity of over 14,000 spectators, opened. In 1968 the roof of the rink was completed, the capacity dropped to its present value. 1973 began the construction of an additional ice surface, which is used for training purposes and public skating.

2006 it was renamed the ČEZ Aréna due to the sponsorship of the energy company ČEZ. Owner of the ice rink is the city of Plzeň. The building complex is now also include a swimming pool with sauna, solarium and physiotherapy.
