ÄŒEZ Group

The ČEZ, a.s. is a publicly traded energy companies from the Czech Republic with its headquarters in Prague. The company was founded in 1992. It is active in Central and Southeastern Europe and Turkey and is active mainly in both the generation and sales of electricity and heat as well as in coal mining.

Company Profile

The ČEZ Group is an energy company consisting of a total of 119 individual companies, including the parent company ČEZ, as (As of December 31, 2009). Of these, 54 are located in the Czech Republic, 31 in the rest of Central and Western Europe, and 34 in South East Europe and Turkey. The company was founded in 1992 by the privatization of the former state-owned enterprise České energetické závody, sp Even today, the Czech state still holds 69.78 % stake.

ČEZ operates in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and Germany several coal-water, wind and solar power plants, some with local partners. The two Czech nuclear power plants Dukovany and Temelín also be guided by ČEZ. Together with a partner is to be built in the Slovak Jaslovské Bohunice at the site of the existing Bohunice a new nuclear power plant. The company also controls a distribution network. In 2009, the Company acquired 50 % of the Central German lignite mbH.

ČEZ is listed in the financial index WIG 20 of the Warsaw Stock Exchange and the Prague Stock Exchange PX. The company is also cited in the Czech Traded Index and the CEETX. At 31 December 2009 the Group had total assets of CZK 530 259 million, the profit amounted to CZK 51.9 billion.

On 14 September 2011 joined the longtime CEO of ČEZ, Martin Roman, back. The Czech government led one days on the appointment of Daniel Beneš the new Director General ( Chief Executive Officer) of the Group. As a reason for the de facto dismissal of its novel function, the intention of the Government was called to limit the expansion of the company abroad and instead to focus on the expansion of the Temelín nuclear power plant with two more reactors.
