CF Atlante

The Club de Fútbol Atlante, or shortly Atlante, is a Mexican football club from Cancun.

Under the direction of the association is located in North Carolina, a team named Atlante USA.

Club history

Atlante was founded in 1916 on the corner of Valladolid and Sinaloa in Mexico City from Trinidad Martínez, workers and leaders of some street guys. At first they called themselves Sinaloa (after the road on which they were founded ), then Lusitania and then U -53 in honor of a German U- boat during the First World War. Finally, but still valid today, Atlante name was chosen, which is due to the Atlantic Ocean.

With the release of CF Atlante in the capital League ( 1927/28 season ) a new audience was drawn into the stadiums. Now the bleachers populated by men who work suits, sandals and palm hats were added; it was the common people. " Los Prietitos " ( the dark-skinned ), as the chronicler Don Facundo called them, formed a real football communities that formed from the dusty plains of the capital.

The cultural differences between the clubs are also evidenced by the different style, as they celebrated their successes. For example, while the English in the early period of the Mexican football preferred whiskey at celebrations, drank the Azulgranas ( the blue Scarlet ) in the hour of triumph prefer a cold beer.

The milieu differences between the major clubs of the 1930s from Mexico City are well illustrated by the author Carlos Calderón Cardoso: " The areas of the Parque España were perfectly delineated: in the sunny plazas there were the less affluent layers - such as the followers of Atlante and Necaxa - while the shady places were populated by fans, who could not afford the more expensive tickets, as the followers of España and Asturias. The followers of America found themselves on both stands. "

Next Calderón writes in the same article about the fans of Atlante: "One of the most atmospheric fan groups were the Atlante; the Atlantistas protected themselves from the sun with the typical hats ( sombrero de petate ). Great Palm ... hats and huge percussion instruments characterized the hardcore scene of Atlante, one of the most loyal supporter groups in the Mexican football scene. "

That was not to be trifled with Atlantistas, prove the following lines, also from the pen of Calderón: "Disputes in the stands were rare. One of the most violent contributed to the January 17, 1936; at a game between España and Atlante. Carreño, crowd favorite at Atlante, had been sent off. The people on the sun grandstand began throwing objects on the playing field. Bottles, coins and stones rained down on the shadow stands on the players of España and even on the referee. The match was interrupted for more than an hour. More than 100 soldiers were placed to calm tempers. Finally Carreño was accused by the League to have incited the audience. The League even considered a one-year sentence for the player, but the pressure from the fans was so great that the sentence was eventually dismissed. "

, Cruz Azul played in the 1940s, when it did not exist, the team of UNAM neither the capital nor in the first division, America still did not get the million grants from Televisa and the metropolis was not flooded by millions Fugitives, enjoyed Atlante the highest approval ratings of the common people in the capital and was considered a genuine folk club. Later the popularity of the club waned, and there were almost exclusively long-established locals - mainly from the north and east of the city center located slums - who kept the original workers' association loyalty.

For the enormous loss of popularity in recent decades there have been two main reasons. Firstly, the association was systematically run down by a weak leadership. Secondly, Mexico City has had to cope with a huge increase in population of exiles, who let rise by a multiple of the number of inhabitants. These new residents tended - if they are not already a fan of another team, such as Chivas Guadalajara, goods - has always been, so that the once glorious club Atlante granted to one of the big three clubs in the city no growth.

With the intention to reclaim his lost acceptance and its now become relatively small fan base to increase again, the club has been increasing since 1989, the role of a pilgrim in Mexican soccer. Because ever since the club was already in four cities and also home to many states.

After it had the first club devious for the 1989/90 season to Querétaro in the same State, where he was never really accepted by the local population and to make matters worse, even relegation, he moved back to Mexico City.

At the beginning of the season 2002/ 03 was another relocation. This time it was in the east of the Mexican capital situated commuter town Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, where the club was allowed to use the built especially for the 1986 World Cup Estadio de Neza as a home ground. Although in this rapidly growing and extremely dreary suburb - in the now live many former capital city, the high rents in the city can no longer afford - still lives much of his actual Fanpotenzials, the club was not happy here. Because the relationship between the club and its new host, the city of Nezahualcóyotl was problematic and was repeatedly marred by disputes between the two parties. These were probably the trigger for the return to Mexico City during the Clausura 2004. Had Atlante the third home game of the season 2003/ 04 14 February 2004 against UNAM Pumas ( 2:4 ) still disputed in Nezahualcóyotl, found the next home game eleven days later against Vera Cruz ( 3-3 ) again at the Azteca stadium held that the association of earlier times was still very familiar.

His most recent move verschlug the club in August 2007 in the Mexican resort of Cancun in the state of Quintana Roo.

The move is likely to be mainly due to the low viewer interest, the club enjoyed the last in the capital. One Trat namely not just against one of the three city rivals Chivas Guadalajara or Mexico's most popular, rarely stray more than 3,000 spectators to the Aztec Stadium, where the club recently enjoyed hospitality and his "ghost games" played. His loyal fan base takes the club to move apparently not bad, because whenever Atlante guest performances in the capital completed, the team is supported by its followers are numerous and powerful voice; as against Cruz Azul during their appearance (0-0 ) on February 28, 2009 at the photo on the right.
