CFA Institute

The CFA Institute is an organization of financial analysts, headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, with additional offices in Hong Kong and London, which was known as the Association for Investment Management and Research ( AIMR ) before. The CFA Institute awards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) was established in 1945 and published in the Financial Analysts Journal. CFA Institute also operates the " CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity " and the " Research Foundation of CFA Institute ."

History

In 1925, an association of financial analysts the " Investment Analyst Society of Chicago ." Similar organizations were established elsewhere, such as the " New York Society of Security Analysts ( NYSSA ) " in 1937. 1947 merged the individual associations to an umbrella organization, the " National Federation of Financial Analysts Societies ( NFFAS ) ". Newly established organizations also joined the national association.

1959 voted for the member associations to set up the " Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts ( ICFA ) " to be awarded the CFA designation. ICFA offered the first CFA exam in 1963 and began with the still existing format of three exams in 1964. The NFFAS, the Financial Analyst Federation (FAF ) was later, while still remaining as an umbrella organization organization for the individual members of associations.

After ICFA and NFFAS many years existed separately from each other, the two organizations decided in 1990 to merge the " Association for Investment Management and Research ( AIMR ) ." In 1999, the merger was completed. In 2004, the AIMR decided to change its name to CFA Institute to clarify its connection to the ethics guidelines of the " CFA Charters ".

Today, the CFA Institute has more than 110,000 members, of which almost 90 % CFA charter carrier. There are 138 organizations in 60 countries.
