Chagatai Khan

Chagatai Khan (also Chagatai or Chaghatai, mongol Цагадай Хаан / Tsagadaj Chaan; . * To 1186, † 1242 ) was the second son of Genghis Khan, and is the ancestor of many Central Asian rulers until into the 16th century. He has survived as a strict guardian of Jassa.

Chagatai had a total of three blood brothers, Jochi, Ugedai and Tolui to run more half-brothers and adopted brothers.

Chagatai Khan took 1219/21 on the conquest of Turkestan in part and, after the death of his father on the specially convened kuriltai 1229 in the division of all territories conquered among the four uterine brothers or the surviving three brothers and the descendants of the 1227 deceased Jochi the country on the Ili and Tschüi and founded his own dynasty, which included the newly created " Chagatai Ulus ". After the loss of the western region the residual Khanate was called " Moghulistan " (Land of the Mongols ).
