Chamarel

Chamarel is a small, situated in the southwest of Mauritius village with about 700 inhabitants, which is known for its natural beauty lying in its vicinity. It is named after the Frenchman Charles Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel, who lived here around 1800.

Among the natural beauties Chamarels among other things, include the Seven Coloured Earth Chamarel Falls and the Black River Gorge National Park. The town itself is located a few kilometers from the coast at an altitude of 283 meters and belongs to the administrative district of Black River. Its area is also famous for the cultivation of coffee. At the entrance to the Sanctuary of Santa Anna is ( built in 1876 ), the pilgrimage to the believers of the Assumption (August 15 ). Later found in place on the same day a popular festival held.
