Chamberlain John Deere

Chamberlain was an Australian brand of tractor and for some years the market leader. Even after the mid-1970s the company John Deere took over the manufacturer, the name was further used for several years.

The company was founded in 1947 by AW Chamberlain and his two sons. The first eleven tractors, however, were not built until two years later. They were equipped with a 2 -cylinder engine, which was operated with kerosene after attempts had failed with diesel engines. There were versions with 40 and 45 hp. The first diesel tractor was the 1952 offered 60 DA, which was powered by a 3- cylinder engine from General Motors. By 1976, motors of this manufacturer in Chamberlain tractors were built. Mid-1950s, next to a smaller and cheaper tractor was built with a Perkins engine and a self-made 3 -speed gearbox. From that were sold during the twenty -year production period about 20,000.

Compared to European or American companies Chamberlain was with a production capacity of three thousand tractors per year, a rather small manufacturer. Nevertheless, only in the 1960s, the company grew from a turnover of 7.6 million Australian dollars to 19.3 million Australian dollars.

The late 1960s, they brought with the Countryman the first 100 hp tractor on the market.

1970 John Deere bought a 49 per cent Chamberlain to a few years later take over the entire company. Beginning in 1975, was in all models from 68 hp to 119 hp in Saran (France) produced John Deere engines installed. From 1982 there was a new production series with larger models. 1986, the construction of Chamberlain tractors has been set and in the factories only agricultural equipment was manufactured.
