Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux situated at an altitude of 230 m above sea level, 5 km southeast of Rioz and about 18 km north- northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department in the wide valley of Ognon on the edge of the heights of Châtelard.

The area of ​​5.89 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon. This flows here with several meanders through an alluvial plain, which has a width of one to two kilometers and is on average 225 m. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley to the adjacent plateau of Le Châtelard. This consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly layers of the upper Jurassic period. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. With 332 m is reached on a knoll north of the valley of Bellevaux the highest elevation of Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux. To the west of the municipality of soil on the plateau extends to the wooded valley section of the Ruisseau de Malgérard, a right tributary of the Ognon.

Neighboring communities of Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux are Traitiéfontaine in the north, Cirey in the east, and Valleroy Aulx -lès- Cromary in the south and Sorans -lès -Breurey and Neuvelle -lès- Cromary in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman aqueduct and other finds from this period indicate that an early settlement of the municipality of Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux. First mentioned in a document of the place is in the year 1140. He was then in the possession of the monastery of Saint -Vincent, Besançon. However Settled Chambornay was already much earlier. The first settlement was located on the hill at the pre-Romanesque chapel of Saint -Justin. In the course of the 12th century, the area was cleared by the monks of the Cistercian monastery Bellevaux and reclaimed. The settlement Chambornay was moved out to the edge of the valley at the source of Doye, and the land was transferred to the monastery Bellevaux. In the Middle Ages Chambornay belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Germain is originally from the 12th century (the choir of this period is preserved). The ship was built in the 18th century. For the rich interior include the furniture of the 18th century, the statue of the Virgin de Pitié from the 16th century and several grave slabs. From the 10th century the pre-Romanesque chapel of Saint -Justin comes in an elevated position west of the village. It was changed several times over the centuries.

Population

With 167 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 216 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Meanwhile, the site has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Voray -sur- l'Ognon after Loulans - Verchamp. Further road links exist with Traitiéfontaine and Neuvelle -lès- Cromary.
