The Chaminade University of Honolulu is a private university in Honolulu in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Carrier is the Society of Mary Roman Catholic Church.

History and Mission

The college was founded in 1955 to explore the possibility of a religious education to provide the Catholic population in Hawaii. It is named after the French priest William Joseph Chaminade, founder of the Society of Mary. The college was initially the name of Saint Louis Junior College, from 1957 Chaminade College and in 1977 the present name Chaminade University of Honolulu, after the Graduate School was introduced.

The University is now taking non-Christian students, but still practiced their five-point program, which is derived from the principles of the Society of Mary:

Their motto is Vita De Verbo ( " Live in the world ").
