Changwon

Changwon is a city and the capital of Gyeongsangnam -do in South Korea. It is located about 40 km west of Busan.

History

By 1963, Busan was part of the province, but even after the spin-off as a big city, it was the administrative seat of the province. When after 20 years, the decision was made to cover the administration in the province, there were several cities to choose from. To the surprise of many Changwon won the race, in spite of the more promising prospects of the cities of Masan and Chinju. On 1 July 2010, the neighboring cities of Jinhae and Masan were incorporated.

Economy

Through a highly accelerated development and modernization, Changwon has developed into a center for heavy industry, engineering and manufacturing industries. Meanwhile, the solar industry has taken here on foot.

Education

The Changwon National University as well as several technical schools are located in the city.

Culture

Apart from an F- 3 Grand Prix track Changwon has rather little to offer for sightseeing tourists.
