Chanson de Guillaume

The Chanson de Guillaume is an old French epic ( chanson de geste ). It is the core and the oldest epic text from the Epenzyklus about the going back to William of Aquitaine hero Guillaume d'Orange. This cycle has emerged towards the beginning of the 12th century, but was only rediscovered in 1903.

At the center of this epic are Guillaume d'Orange and his nephew Vivien. Women also have a relatively large role in this epic.

In Epenzyklus about Guillaume d' Orange is lignage (family, ancestors, ancestry) the structuring criterion. Some of the epics fall back to Guillaume's great-grandfather Garin de Monglane.
