Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux
The Chaos de Montpellier- le -Vieux is a touristic unused rock formation in the French department of Aveyron.
Geography
The rock formation is located in the western part of the department on the high plateau of the Causse Noir. To the north lie the rivers Tarn and Jonte gorges in the south are the Dourbie, to the west is the town of Millau.
Nature
The rock collection comprises approximately 120 hectares result are caused by corrosion of the dolomite rock of the Causse Noir. Originally it was assumed that it was at the rocks around a ruined city, until 1870 a trail was beaten to the rocks. The speleologist Edouard- Alfred Martel mapped the rocks 1883-1884 first.
