Charles Baker Adams

Charles Baker Adams ( born January 11, 1814 Dorchester, Massachusetts, † January 19, 1853 in Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica) was an American naturalist.

Biography

After attending Amherst College, where he studied from 1834 to 1836 at the Seminary of Andover. He then participated in a geological survey in part to the cartography of New York under Edward Hitchcock. In 1837 he was himself a tutor at Amherst College, before being appointed in 1838 as professor of chemistry and natural history at Middlebury College in Vermont.

Between 1844 and 1851 he made several research trips to Panama and the West Indies. In addition, he was from 1845 to 1848 worked as a geologist for the state of Vermont.

In 1847 he accepted an appointment as professor of astronomy and zoology at Amherst College in.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he was the author of numerous articles and books, including:
