Charles, Duke of Vendôme

Charles de Bourbon ( * June 2, 1489 in Vendôme, † March 25, 1537 in Amiens ) was since 1495, Count of Vendôme, Soissons, Marle and Enghien and Baron of Condé -en- Brie, Montoire Lavardin, Mondoubleau and Épernon.

Origin

Charles was the eldest son and principal heir of François de Bourbon and his wife Marie de Luxembourg († 1547), daughter of Pierre II de Luxembourg. About his father he was descended from the younger branch of the house of Bourbon, which was of royal Capetian origin, descended from King Louis IX. the saints. His mother came from the French branch of the former Imperial House of Luxembourg.

Life

Charles participated in the wars against the Habsburgs in Italy and 1507 by King Louis XII. entrusted with the governorship of Genoa.
