Charles Frederick, Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen

Karl Friedrich of Hohenzollern- Sigmaringen ( born January 9, 1724 in Sigmaringen, † December 20, 1785 in Krauchenwies ) was from 1769 to 1785 Prince of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen, Lord of Haigerloch and Wehrstein.

Life

Karl Friedrich was the son of Prince Joseph Friedrich Ernst von Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen (1702-1769) from his first marriage to Marie Franziska (1703-1737), daughter of Prince Franz Albrecht Oettingen- Spielberg. The Prince was first brought up in Sigmaringen and Munich. Later, an education at universities in Freiburg, Göttingen and Ingolstadt. He returned back to Sigmaringen in 1746 and soon took on a grand tour, a kind of educational trip through Germany, Austria and Italy, which led him to several large farms.

Then Karl Friedrich sought his relatives in the Netherlands. There he also met his future wife. He married on March 2, 1749 Castle Kail Johanna ( 1727-1787 ), daughter of Count Franz Wilhelm of Hohenzollern- mountain. The marriage took place not only for political reasons, but Karl Friedrich had a deep affection for his fiancée and wife. Johanna was heir to the lucrative Dutch County Bergh s'Heerenberg, After marriage he lived on the estates of his Dutch father frequently than in the Principality of his family.

Karl Frederick experienced the Seven Years' War on the side of Maria Theresa of Austria against Prussia. He served until 1763 in a cavalry regiment as part of the troops of the Swabian kingdom circle. The troops fought with much use against the run of Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz Prussian cavalry. On Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen military conflict had virtually no effect, thus favoring the development of the economy. Karl Friedrich was Erbkämmerer the Holy Roman Empire and Field Marshal Lieutenant of the Swabian kingdom circle. Otherwise, the prince very enthusiastic for hunting.
