Charles H. Colton

Charles Henry Colton (* October 15, 1848 in New York City, USA, † May 9, 1915 in Buffalo ) was Bishop of Buffalo.

Life

Charles Henry Colton visited the St. Francis Xavier College in New York City. At St. Joseph 's Seminary in Troy Colton studied Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 10 June 1876, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Colton was curate at St. Stephen 's Church, and also chaplain at Bellevue Hospital. In 1896 he became pastor of the parish of Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester and in addition, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of New York.

On May 20, 1903, he was named Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Buffalo. The Archbishop of New York, John Murphy Farley, gave him on 24 August of the same year at St. Patrick 's Cathedral in New York City episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Rochester, Joseph Bernard John McQuaid, and the Bishop of Brooklyn, Charles Edward McDonnell.
