Charles Henry Churchill

Colonel Charles Henry Spencer - Churchill ( born May 27, 1828April 3, 1877 ) was a British officer and diplomat and British consul in Syria.

Life

He was the grandson of George Spencer-Churchill, 5th Duke of Marlborough. His parents were Lord Charles Spencer - Churchill and Ethelred Catherine Benett.

As a British consul in Damascus Churchill called for already in the 1840s a Jewish state of Israel in Palestine. He wrote several important ( cultural) historical works on the Middle East, including an extensive biography of Abd el -Kader, whom he had known during his exile in Damascus.

He married on October 30, 1862 Rosalie Lowther.
