Charles John Biddle

Charles John Biddle ( born April 30, 1819 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † September 28, 1873 ) was an American politician. Between 1861 and 1863 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Biddle was the nephew of Congressman Richard Biddle ( 1796-1847 ). He attended Princeton College until 1837. After a subsequent law degree in 1840 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working in Philadelphia in this profession. Biddle then took part as a Brevet Major in the Mexican-American War. He then continued his lawyer in Philadelphia. In the years 1861 and 1862 he was in the early stages of the Civil War colonel of a reserve unit from Pennsylvania. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

Following the resignation of Mr Edward Joy Morris Biddle was at the due election for the second seat of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on July 2, 1861. Since he has not been confirmed in 1862, he was able to complete up to March 3, 1863 only one term in Congress, which was shaped by the events of the Civil War. In 1863, Charles Biddle in Pennsylvania state chairman of the Democratic Party. He was also co-owner and editor of the newspaper Philadelphia Age. He died on September 28, 1873 in Philadelphia, where he was also buried.
