Charles Korvin

Charles Korvin, actually Géza Korvin Kárpáthy ( born November 21, 1907 in Pöstyény, Austria - Hungary, now Slovakia Piešťany, † 18 June 1998 in Manhattan, New York ) was an American actor.

Life

Korvin studied at the Sorbonne. He first worked as a director of documentaries and as a cameraman. In 1937 he moved to the U.S.. He completed his training as an actor at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. On Broadway, he made his debut in 1943 under the name Geza Korvin in the play Dark Eyes by Elena Miramova and Eugenie Leontovich. In 1965 he came again on Broadway in the comedy Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon. He took over the role of Victor Velasco by Kurt Kasznar.

After he had a movie contract with Universal Pictures closed, he changed his name to Charles Korvin. His film debut was in 1944 in the title role of the daring French master thief Arsène Lupin in the thriller Enter Arsene Lupin, while his " good looks and his continental charm " benefited. He then played in the aftermath first romantic heroes and lovers, in his next three films on the side of Merle Oberon. After contract disputes - Korvin a villain role was to take over, this however, refused - 1947 his contract with Universal Studios was dissolved.
