Charles of Mount Argus

Karel from Saint Andrew (born Johannes Andreas Houben, born December 11, 1821 in Munstergeleen, The Netherlands, † January 5, 1893 in Dublin, Ireland) was a Dutch priest and Passionist. He is a saint in the Catholic Church.

John Houben joined the Passionist in 1845 and took the religious name of Karel St. Andrew. In 1850 he was ordained a priest. Charles first worked in various convents of his order in England. Finally, he was in 1857 transferred to the Monastery Mount Argus, where he worked almost until his death. Karl was estimated in the population as a popular and successful confessor and spiritual director. Allegedly, he had the gift to heal the sick.

Karel from St. Andrew was founded in 1988 by Pope John Paul II beatified in 2007 and by Pope Benedict XVI. canonized.
