Charles of Provence

Karl ( * 845, † 863 January 24 at the convent of St-Pierre -les- Nonnains, now Lyon) was from 855 king of the Frankish kingdom of Burgundy.

Charles was the youngest son of the Emperor Lothar I from his marriage to Ermengarde of Tours. He got 855 with the division of Prüm with the Provence the most part of Burgundy ( with the exception of the Bourgogne ) is assigned. Karl suffered from epilepsy and was therefore hardly capable of governing and dependent on the Great in his sovereign territory. He died childless. After his death, his empire between his two brothers Lothar II and Louis II was divided.
