Charles Ruijs de Beerenbrouck

Charles de Ruijs Beerenbrouck ( born December 1, 1873 in Roermond, † April 17, 1936 in Utrecht) was from 1918 to 1925 and from 1929 to 1933 Dutch Interior Minister and Prime Minister.

Beerenbroucks father was justice minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mackay and governor of Limburg.

Beerenbrouck studied law at Leiden University and received his doctorate in 1895. He was a member of the Student Union Augustine and active in several Catholic societies. He also became involved in the fight against alcoholism.

When he took office in 1918 the Prime Minister, he was the youngest until then and also the first Catholic prime minister of the Netherlands.

In 1927, the honorary title of Minister of State, he was awarded.
