Charles V. Fornes

Charles Vincent Fornes (* January 22, 1844 in Williamsville, New York, † May 22 1929 in Buffalo, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1907 and 1913 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Vincent Fornes was born about two years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War, on a farm near Williamsville in Erie County. He attended public schools and graduated in 1864 at the Union Academy in Lockport. In 1866, he moved to Buffalo, where he taught at a district school and then spent three years as Principal at the Buffalo Public School. He worked as a clerk ( clerk ) for a large Händeler for woolen goods in Buffalo and later founded itself a similar business. In 1877 he moved to New York City, where he worked as an importer and wholesaler of woolen goods. Between 1902 and 1907 he was President of the Board of Aldermen in New York City. He was a trustee and director of several banks and corporations. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1906 for the 60th Congress Fornes was the eleventh electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William Randolph Hearst on March 4, 1907. He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1912, dropped out of after March 3, 1913 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went to New York City back to its previous transactions. In 1926 he retired from active business and returned to Buffalo. He died there on 22 May 1929 and was buried at the United German and French Roman Catholic Cemetery in Pine Hill ( Buffalo ).
