Charles van Beveren

Charles van Beveren ( born April 6, 1809 in Mechelen, † September 16, 1850 in Amsterdam ) was a portrait, historical and genre painter of the Romantic period.

He received at the Academy of his native city of Mechelen and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp His first lessons. From there he went to Amsterdam, where he dealt in particular with copying old master paintings. 1832 probably caused by a disease, and again in 1834 he moved to Italy and then to Paris. In 1849 he married to Amsterdam. Shortly before his death, the handle in the form of a stomach illness after him, he was appointed corresponding member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. Charles Van Beveren was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the major colorists of his time.
