Charleston Museum

The Charleston Museum is a museum in Charleston, South Carolina.

The museum was founded in 1773 and is the oldest museum in America. The public was accessible in 1824. It is located in the Downtown Historic District of Charleston.

The museum building exhibitions on natural history and local history of Charleston are shown. The museum also manages two other historically furnished buildings:

• The Heyward - Washington House - from the late 18th century, home of Thomas Heyward, Jr.
• The Joseph Manigault House Typical southern building with American, English and French furniture of the early 19th century
