Charley van de Weerd

Anton ( Charley ) van de Weerd (* January 18, 1922; † 3 February 2008) was a Dutch football player.

Van de Weerd played from 1940 to 1961 for FC Wageningen, only interrupted by a season for De Graafschap. With Wageningen in 1948 he won the KNVB Cup. He played in over 600 league games and once for the national team Elftal. All his life he was called on the court Charley instead of his actual first name Anton because his movements were reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin. After his playing career, he operated a shop in Wageningen.

Van de Weerd died at the age of 86 years.
