Charles Alvin "Charlie" Sanders ( born August 25, 1946 in Richlands, North Carolina, USA) is an American former American football player. He played as a tight end in the National Football League ( NFL) with the Detroit Lions.

Playing career

College career

Charlie Sanders was born in Richlands, at the age of eight he moved to his military service to Greensboro, where he also attended high school with his father. After his second year, he was mainly brought up by an aunt, since his mother had died. In high school, he was active as a football player and basketball player. After joining the University of Minnesota, he also played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball and football. In 1967 he won with his football team, the Big Ten Conference.

Professional career

Charles Sanders was drafted in 1968 by the trained by Joe Schmidt Detroit Lions in the third round to 74th place. In 1970, the Lions were able to move into the play-offs, where, however, prematurely retired prematurely after a 5-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Up to end of his career in 1977, was no longer able Sanders with his team in the play-offs to feed.

After the career

Charlie Sanders has been working since the end of his career in various functions in the organization of the Detroit Lions. From 1983 to 1988 he hosted the Games of the Lions club's radio.
