Charlotte Armstrong
Charlotte Armstrong, Charlotte Armstrong Lewi actually ( born 2 May 1905 in Vulcan, Michigan, USA, † July 18, 1969 in Glendale, California ) was an American writer.
Life
Armstrong attended the University of Wisconsin -Madison and in 1925 received at Barnard College Bachelor of Arts. She was married to Jack Levi, with whom she had a daughter and two sons.
Under the names Charlotte Armstrong and Jo Valentine she wrote over 28 novels - primarily mystery novels and thrillers - and also worked for the advertising department of The New York Times, as a fashion journalist for Breath of the Avenue and in an accounting firm.
In 1957 she received for A Dram of Poison ( ger A sip of poison) the Edgar Allan Poe Award ( Best Novel category ). Two more of her novels ( The Gift Shop and Lemon in the Basket, 1967) were nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award. Also three of her short stories (And Already Lost ( 1957), The Case for Miss Peacock ( 1965) and The Splintered Monday (1966 )), which were all published in Ellery Queen 's Mystery Magazine, have been nominated for the Edgar Award.
