The nuclear power plant Chashma (after the English name Chashma Nuclear Power Plant also abbreviated CHASNUPP ) is a nuclear power plant with two reactor units in the province of Punjab, near the city Chashma ( Chashma Barrage ) on the left bank of the Indus, 32 kilometers south of Mianwali City, 280 km southwest of Islamabad and 1160 km north-east of Karachi in Pakistan. Two other blocks are involving the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute ( SNERDI: Shanghai Institute of Research and Design of Nuclear Technology, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation, CNNC ) under construction.

History

The construction of the Chashma -1 started on 1 August 1992., The official start of construction of the plant was on 1 August 1993. Upon completion of the normal construction work in 1996, 1996 and 1997, large-scale systems such as reactor pressure vessels, turbines, generator, steam generators, etc. were installed and for the first time filled the reactor with fuel. Before the system was put into operation, Chashma -1 was verified by a pre- OSART mission, consisting of 14 experts in various fields such as operation, maintenance, training, technical support, security, etc.. The reactor was first synchronized on 13 June 2000 with the power supply and went on 15 September 2000 in commercial operation. With the construction of the Chashma -2 was launched on 28 December 2005 and the unit started in May 2011, commercial operation on.

The 300 MW nuclear power plant was approved by the China National Nuclear Corporation ( CNNC ) designed and built. The Chinese technology is based on the experience of the Qinshan nuclear power plant.

The site has been investigated thoroughly in accordance with international standards by national and international experts. The seismic aspects were examined by the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA). The result was that the terrain is well suited for the construction of a nuclear power plant.

On May 28 and 18 December 2011 were each started the construction of a third and fourth reactor block, which should have a gross capacity of 340 MW and a net capacity of 315 MW a somewhat higher performance than the existing blocks.

Reactor design

Both reactors are pressurized water reactors with a thermal capacity of 998.6 MWt, a net electrical output of 300 MWe and a gross electrical output of 325 MWe.

Data of the reactor units

The Chashma nuclear power plant consists of two in operation and two under construction blocks:
