History

The first written mention of the estate is to be found in a treaty of 1547, which calls the prosecutor Guirault Roborel as the heir of the lands of present-day Château Climens. A connection to Jean Climens whose existence was traced in Barsac to the year 1462, could so far not be created. Guirault put on the first vineyards and the family expanded their name to Roborel de Climens.

In 1800, Jean Bineaud acquired Château Climens of the family Roborel de Climens. The purchase agreement called a vineyard of 27 hectares, which were distributed on three parcels. In the documents of the Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855 was called at that time Eloi Lacoste as the owner. In 1871 the estate went to Alfred Ribet, who, however, had to sell it at the height of the phylloxera disaster to the publisher Henri Gounouillhou only 14 years later. Henri Gounouillhou was through his marriage in 1880 with Frl Dubroca already owner of Château Doisy - Dubroca.

Under the leadership of the equipment by the Gounouillhou family Château Climens was qualitatively the number two in the region for many years behind Château d' Yquem.

In 1971 Lucien Lurton bought the winery.
