Château de Vizille

The Vizille (French Château de Vizille or Château de Lesdiguières ) Castle is one of the largest and most prestigious castles of the Dauphiné, the traditional heartland of the French heir to the French Revolution. It is in the municipality of Vizille in the Isere department.

The predecessor of today's castle was in the French wars of religion, a fortress in the hands of Catholic associations. With the peace of 1593 the possession of the Huguenot military leader François de Bonne, Duke of Lesdiguières and later peer of France, was purchased. François de Bonne had the castle from 1604 to 1620 rebuild. He held the highest offices at court of the Kingdom of France and was the last Constable of French history. His castle, with 130 hectares park surrounded by a seven km long wall was a symbol of that power position.

In 1780 the producer Claude Perier bought the property to build a factory there. On July 21, 1788, he allowed 491 deputies to come together in the castle. In 1862 the castle was an historic monument (French: monument historique ) classified and finally changed in 1924 in the state-owned. In 1971, the department of Isère possession of the French government. 1983 focused on the castle grounds a museum of the French Revolution.
