Castle Hohlandsberg ( Hohlandsburg, French: Château du Haut Bourg -Land ) is a medieval castle in Wintzenheim in Alsace ( Haut -Rhin), about seven kilometers west of Colmar.

Location

The conspicuous plant is enthroned as the pinnacle castle in altitude of 650 meters on the eastern edge of the Vosges. It monitors the output of the Münstertal in the Upper Rhine Valley. The view extends far beyond the valley to the emperor chair, Strasbourg and Basel, as well as several neighboring castle ruins ( among others Pflixburg, three exes ). Accessible Hohlandsberg is one on the Route des cinq châteaux ( Five Castles Road ) situated a short walk parking. The castle is open from Easter to mid-November, the entrance is free of charge.

History

On the Castle Hill ( 1300-750 BC ) was already in the Late Bronze Age, a vast fortification. The castle was begun in 1279 by the mayor of Colmar Siegfried of Gundolsheim, but fell already in 1281 by the Habsburgs who expansions generous. Hohlandsberg consists of a small, since 1987 archaeologically explored Upper Castle and a 96 times 66 meters wide, almost rectangular sub- castle, which is surrounded by up to 14 meters high and two meters thick, walkable wall with tour Ellen and weir bays.
