History

The estate belonged to the once mighty Seigneurie d' Arsac. The history of this noble family can be traced back to knight Guillaume Guiral d' Arsac in 1143. During the Hundred Years War, the family was an ally of the British and maintained in Arsac a country house. Until the late 16th century, the country remained in the possession of this family. Amanieu d' Arsac had two daughters, Jaquette and Maguerite. Jacquette married Thomas de Montaigne, brother of the famous Michel de Montaigne.
