Château Durfort-Vivens

Château Durfort- Vivens is evaluated in the classification of 1855, a vineyard in the commune of Margaux in Bordeaux and as Deuxième Cru Classé. The estate covers an area of 32 hectares.

History

First owners were members of Durfort de Duras family, who lived in Margaux from the 12th century. The family running the estate for centuries after the first wine area in the 15th century were created, and led it to the top of the wineries of Bordeaux. The family belonged to the time included Château Lascombes also Château Lamothe, which was later merged into the areas of Château Margaux. During his visit in 1775 in the wine region of Bordeaux quoted Thomas Jefferson, former U.S. Ambassador to France and later President of the United States, that the wines of Château Durfort behind Château Lafite- Rothschild, Chateau Haut -Brion and Château Margaux are classified. During the French Revolution the noble family was expropriated. In 1824, M. de Vivens took over the estate and added his name to the Gutsbezeichnung.

Since the death of Lucien Lurton in 1992 Gonzague Lurton leads, a son Lucien, the Good. His wife Claire Villars- Lurton also heads the wineries Château Ferrière, Château Haut -Bages - Libéral and Château La gurge. His brother Henri Lurton leads Brane Cantenac meanwhile.
