Château Grand-Puy-Ducasse

Château Grand -Puy- Ducasse is a winery in the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux. Château Grand -Puy- Ducasse is also the name of the red wine that is produced on this estate. The Château was in 1855 as one of eighteen Cinquièmes Classified Growth ( Fifth greenhouse ) evaluated in the official Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855. The Château has a total of 50 acres of floor space, of which 38.66 hectares are planted with vines.

History

The winery was founded in the 18th century. Pierre Ducasse, his time one of the largest landowners in Pauillac, acquired in the 18th century part of the scattered vines from his grandfather Artigues Arnaud and extended the possession. The property was named " Ducasse Grand -Puy- Artigues- Arnaud ." The name portion of Grand -Puy ( Big Mountain ) refers to a district within the municipality Pauillac. The Château was afterwards for many years owned the wine trade group Cordier Mestrezat. This company had to sell due to financial problems at the investment group of Crédit Agricole in 2004, his entire wineries.

Vineyards

While the old château was built on the quay of Pauillac, the 38 -hectare vineyards of Château Grand -Puy- Ducasse are distributed in three different places. The northern vineyards are located in the immediate vicinity of Château Mouton- Rothschild and Château Lafite- Rothschild, the western areas are situated in the district of Grand -Puy and the southern areas are located in the district Batailley. The wine

Chateau Grand -Puy- Ducasse produces about 10,000-12,000 cases of wine (a 12 bottles of 0.75 liters ) in an average year. The fermentation takes place in temperature -controlled stainless steel tanks, then the wine is filled into barrels.
