Château Marquis de Terme

The Château Marquis de Terme is a fairly well-known vineyard of Bordeaux. Since the classification of 1855, the winery is classified as Quatrième Grand Cru Classé (fourth level of classification ).

The estate is located in the south of the Medoc in the commune of Margaux, it is with 38 acres of medium size. On average it produces about 180,000 bottles of red wine.

The second wine is now called Les Gondats de Marquis de Terme. Earlier this wine was marketed under the name Château des Gondats as Bordeaux Supérieur, as not all plots were entitled to the Margaux appellation.

History

On September 7, 1661 Pierre des Mesures de Rausan acquired, a major dealer in the region, the estate of the family de Gassies. The de Gassies family stood the lords of the Seigneurie de Margaux close. This winery was the origin of today's known Château Rauzan - Gassies, Château Rauzan - Ségla, Château Marquis de Terme Desmirail and Château. Pierre des Mesures de Rausan was since 1661 tenants of Château Margaux and since 1679 tenants of Château Latour. The name " Marquis de Terme" first appeared in 1762 on the marriage of Ledoulx d' Emplet with the Marquis de Terme François de Peguilhan. The couple had 30 acres of land, and the wine enjoyed a good reputation. During his visit to Bordeaux from 24 to May 28, 1787 was visited by the then ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson, the estate a visit.

After the death of François de Peguilhan the wine merchant Halvarous Sollenberg bought the estate in 1809. Sollenberg was of Swedish descent and had married into a wealthy French house.
