Château Rauzan-Ségla

Château Rauzan - Ségla (until 1994 Château Rausan - Ségla ) is a Deuxième Cru Classé Margaux wine region in Bordeaux. The estate covers an area of 66 hectares, of which 52 ha are planted with vines.

The average age of the vines is 27 years (as of 2008 ). The tillering is classic with Cabernet Sauvignon ( 54%), Merlot (41%), Cabernet Franc ( 1%) and Petit Verdot ( 4%). The wines 18 to 20 months in barriques, which are renewed annually to 60 percent.

The second wine of the estate is called Ségla. Approximately 120,000 bottles of Grand Vin and 120,000 bottles of wine are bottled second Yearly.

In the 1960s the estate had a quality crisis. With new stainless steel tanks, new cellar for wine-making, better vines, strict selection of the grapes and with a new team managed the estate in the 1980s re- promotion to the elite of the wineries of Bordeaux.

The 2005 vintage is rated 94 Parker points quite high.

History

On September 7, 1661 Pierre des Mesures de Rausan acquired, a major dealer in the region, the estate of the family de Gassies. The de Gassies family stood the lords of the Seigneurie de Margaux close. This winery was the origin of today's known Château Rauzan - Gassies, Château Rauzan - Ségla, Château Marquis de Terme Desmirail and Château. Pierre des Mesures de Rausan was also tenant of Château Margaux (since 1661) and Chateau Latour (since 1679 ). From this period also the still existing wine cellar. Marie- Anne de Briet married Philippe Simon de Rauzan (Jean -Baptiste 's son ), but separated 10 years later. With the help of her former in-laws, she took over the management of the Ségla stake in 1778.

During a visit in 1787 in Bordeaux later U.S. President Thomas Jefferson visited ( 1743-1826 ) the winery ( Jefferson described the estate under the name Rozan ) and classified it into the second category.

After the estate changed ownership several times in the sequence ( the famous merchant family Cruse had the good as well as the group Holt ), the estate in 1994, the Château Rauzan - corporation Ségla SA passed over. About the Wertheimer family she is a subsidiary of Chanel group.
