Chatham Strait

Geographical location

The Chatham Strait is a along a fault running strait in the panhandle of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is located in the Alexander Archipelago and extends between Chichagof and Baranof Iceland Iceland in the west and Admiralty and Kuiu Iceland Iceland in the east.

The Chatham Strait begins in the north at the intersection of Icy Strait and Lynn Canal and leads straight to the south for a distance of 240 km to the open sea. It is 5 to 16 km wide. Between Kuiu and Admiralty Iceland Frederick Sound branches off to the east.

The ferries of the Alaska Marine Highway run into the Chatham Strait and run there to the Port of Angoon.
