Chatuchak District

Chatuchak ( Thai จตุจักร, tɕà.tùʔ.tɕàk ) is one of the 50 districts ( Khet ) of Bangkok, capital of Thailand. Chatuchak is a northern district, halfway from the center to the Don Mueang Airport. Chatuchak is known for its extensive weekend market.

Geography

Chatuchak is bounded on the north by Khlong Bang Khen, on the east by Khlong Lat Phrao, to the south by Khlong Bang Sue, and the west by the " southern railway " ( the main railway station Hua Lamphong via the train station of Bang Sue, and continue towards south Thailand ) and from the Pracha Chun Road.

History

Chatuchak was originally part of Bang Khen. In 1989 he became a separate Khet. The name of the district comes from the two sights, Chatuchak Park and Chatuchak Weekend Market. On the grounds of the district there used the golf course in the State Railway of Thailand. Today it is the Chatuchak Weekend Market and Chatuchak Park. On August 12, 1992 here also opened a botanical garden, the "Queen Sirikit National Park".

Markets and parks

  • Chatuchak Weekend Market - the most famous creation of the district is arguably the market, which takes place every weekend. He is the largest in the country and open in a partitioned complex, which is achievable by inputs from all sides, in which there are large parking lots. It is used less than the fresh market, but more for the sale of brand-new clothing, second-hand items, plants, interior design objects and even art.
  • Parks - north of the weekend market is the Chatuchak Park complex. This area was formerly a golf course the Thai railway. It is 1.13 km ² and consists of Chatuchak Park ( สวนจตุจักร ), the Queen Sirikit National Park ( สวน สมเด็จ พระนางเจ้า สิริ กิ ติ์ ฯ ) and the Wachirabenchatat Park ( สวน วชิร เบญจ ทัศ ). The Chatuchak Park ( 0.304 km ² ) was the first park, it was opened in December 1980. It lies at the Phahonyothin Road right next to the Mo Chit Skytrain station, it is thus easy to reach. In the park there is a railway museum. The Queen Sirikit National Park ( 0.224 km ²) is a botanical garden, which was opened in honor of the 60th birthday of Queen Sirikit in December 1996. Among the trees of the park are hibiscus, frangipani ( plumeria) and many species of palm trees. Of particular interest are the colorful, domestic and foreign species of lotus flowers on different ponds and ancient planting basins. The garden is located behind the parking lot of the Chatuchak Weekend Market. The Wachirabenchatat Park (0.600 km ²) is the largest and newest park. Originally it was called " railway garden " ( สวน รถไฟ, Suan Rot Fai ), but was renamed in July 2002 in honor of the 50th anniversary of Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. Listed here is a Butterfly Garden and the largest fountain of Thailand.

Additional points of interest

  • The administration building Kasetsart University, which also houses the first aquarium in Thailand, the Bangkok aquarium.
  • Central Plaza Lat Phrao is the largest shopping center in the district, it consists of Central Department Store, the Bangkok Convention Centre - and thus the first Kongess - center of Thailand -, several cinemas and numerous retail shops. Close to Major Cineplex Ratchayothin also the, a cinema center with an IMAX theater is located.
  • The Elephant Tower ( ตึก ช้าง ) is probably the most original buildings of Bangkok. It has the shape of a giant elephant and consists of three towers, the upper floors extend across all three towers. There are homes and offices in it.

Training

  • Kasetsart University is located in a large building complex, which Thanon Vibhavadi Rangsit of the ( Vibhavadi Rangsit Road), Thanon Ngam Wong Wan ( Ngam Wong Wan - road) and Thanon Phahonyothin is included. The prestigious Kasetsart University originally taught agricultural and forestry subjects, study here today but also future engineers and business professionals. Situated opposite the university at the Vibhavadhi Road is the Benchachida Building, in which the Thai Art Museum.

Traffic

The district is served by the subway from Bangkok ( Bangkok Metro), which here has two stations: " Kamphaeng Phet " and " Chatuchak Park".

Again, holding the Skytrain ( BTS) at the bus station Mo Chit. From here, go all the buses in the northern and northeastern provinces.

The council of the district of Chatuchak has eight members, each member shall be elected for four years. The last election was held on 30 April 2006 the results. :
