Chaux-lès-Port

Chaux -lès- Port is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chaux -lès- Port is located at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, 3 km north of Port-sur -Saône and about 14 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, a slight increase on the eastern edge of the valley of the Saône.

The area of ​​4.15 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônetals. The western border is always along the Saône, which draws an arc -reaching westward here. The Alluvialniederung the Saône, on average, 210 meters and has a width of about one kilometer. The river is expanded to the waterway. Its shores are mostly flat, but replace the baffle hanging out with rock caves.

From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward across the alluvial plain and a slowly rising slope up to the adjacent plateau, which consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of Middle Jurassic time. With 277 meters, the highest elevation of Chaux -lès- Port is achieved in the far east. The area shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest land.

Neighboring communities of Chaux -lès- Port are Conflandey and Amoncourt in the north, Villers -sur- Port in the east and Port-sur -Saône in the south and west.

History

The territory of Chaux -lès- Port was settled very early. In the cave Grande -Baume traces of human presence in the Neolithic and the Bronze on the La Tène period were discovered to Roman times. In the Middle Ages Chaux -lès- Port belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Agnan is originally from 1505, but was extensively restored in 1764. It has a portrait of the Madonna from the 17th century and remarkable furniture and statuettes.

Population

With 141 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chaux -lès- Port is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 230 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Chaux -lès- Port was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Port-sur- Saône to Baulay. Another road connection with Villers -sur- Port. Through the municipal area in 1858 opened the railway line runs from Vesoul to Langres. The nearest railway station is located in Port -sur -Saône.
