Chavannaz

Chavannaz is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Chavannaz is located on 553 m above sea level. M., about 18 km north- northwest of the city of Annecy (air line). The scattered settlement community extends a scenic location on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Sion, above the valley of Usses, in Genevois.

The area of ​​3.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The eastern boundary runs along the Ruisseau de Mostan which drains the area to Usses (left tributary of the Rhône). From the Talniederung, the municipality's area extends westward across the slope of Chavannaz up to the adjacent elevation, a southern foothills of the Montagne de Sion, on the 703 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Chavannaz is achieved.

To Chavannaz next to the village itself includes various hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Poitrier (480 m above sea level. M. ) below the village
  • Les Combes (570 m above sea level. M. ) on the hillside overlooking the valley of Usses

History

The name was formerly written Chavanaz. He goes back to the Old French word Chavane (cottage, small courtyard ). In 1860 Chavannaz was assigned to the newly created Canton Frangy, previously it was part of the canton of Saint -Julien -en- Genevois.

The village church of Chavannaz dates from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 189 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chavannaz one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Savoie. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Chavannaz counted 278 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Chavannaz is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from verse Sallenôves. Further road links exist with Minzier, Cernex and Cercier. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of around 12 km.
